Kijani Box LTD

How a Kenyan technology company is combining clean energy, connectivity and software to empower households and independent businesses.

Building technology for the realities of Africa

Access to reliable electricity and modern technology should not determine who gets the opportunity to succeed.

Yet across Africa, households and businesses continue to face barriers to dependable power, connectivity and the tools needed to participate fully in the digital economy.

According to the World Bank's 2026 energy-access report, more than 560 million people in sub-Saharan Africa still lack electricity. The need for practical, affordable solutions remains substantial.

Kijani Box Ltd was founded in Kenya to help address these challenges through technology designed for real-world conditions.

What began as an engineering effort to make reliable household electricity more accessible is developing into a broader technology business.

From engineering to everyday electricity

Kijani Box integrated power system. Product photograph from company materials.

Our first innovation, Kijani Box, brings solar generation, battery storage, electrical protection and connectivity capabilities together in an integrated power system.

Designed for households and small businesses, the system provides a practical alternative where grid electricity is unavailable, unreliable or insufficient.

But creating the technology was only the beginning.

Through our operations in Kiserian and Kajiado Town, we have gained experience in customer onboarding, field installations, payment administration and after-sales support.

These operating locations have helped us understand what matters beyond the product itself: customer trust, reliable servicing, accessible payment arrangements and efficient local delivery.

Today, we are applying those lessons as we refine a more repeatable model for extending energy access into additional communities.

Introducing Kijani Software

We believe independent businesses deserve access to technology previously associated with much larger companies.

That belief led to the development of Kijani Software, a growing part of our technology business.

Its first platform, Kijani PAYGO, is designed to give independent electronics retailers practical tools to manage their existing inventory through flexible customer payment arrangements.

Instead of relying on a large financing company to manage their business, participating dealers can retain ownership of their products, choose their customers and establish their own payment terms.

Kijani provides the software infrastructure for managing device financing, repayment records and supported device controls.

The goal is straightforward:

Help independent businesses sell more effectively, retain control of their operations and keep more economic opportunity within their communities.

Kijani PAYGO is progressing through development, testing and controlled deployment, with broader device compatibility subject to qualification.

Two businesses. One shared purpose.

At first glance, solar-energy systems and device-management software may appear to be different businesses.

We see them as complementary applications of the same principle:

Technology should create opportunities for the people and businesses using it.

Kijani Box Energy addresses access to reliable electricity and connectivity.

Kijani Software addresses access to practical business technology.

Both draw on our experience developing connected products, payment-management systems and operational infrastructure.

Over time, these complementary capabilities could allow Kijani Box to reach more customers and businesses without relying on a single product or distribution channel.

Looking beyond today's products

Our long-term ambition extends beyond one solar system or one software application.

We see opportunities to develop energy solutions suited to different household and commercial needs, alongside software that helps businesses manage connected products and customer relationships.

Our approach is to develop these opportunities progressively, using engineering validation, customer experience and operational evidence to guide expansion.

Kenya remains the foundation of our work, with the potential to apply successful solutions in other African markets facing similar challenges.

We believe sustainable growth comes from proving that technology works, understanding how customers use it and building the systems required to support it responsibly.

Building for a more connected future

Kijani Box is still at an early stage in its wider ambitions.

But our direction is clear.

We want to help households access dependable electricity, enable businesses to participate more fully in the digital economy and create technology that supports economic opportunity.

From powering homes to empowering enterprises, our mission is to build technology that makes progress more accessible.

And we are building that future from Kenya.
